I’tikaf to return to the Two Holy Mosques after two years

Electronic identification cards for visitors have also launched

Planning on visiting the Two Holy Mosques in Ramadan? The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques is now restoring the pre-COVID-19 routine procedures. Visiting the Holy Sites is a huge part of the spirituality of Ramadan, especially in the last ten days of the month, which is the period of observance of i’tikaf.

The General Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques confirmed that the worshipers should still wear masks. The iftar feast “sufrah” spreads will be resuming inside the Holy Mosques after an absence of two years. Sufrahs are long spread iftar stations for people inside the Holy Mosques free of cost.

Those interested in sponsoring the sufrah service will be able to access the electronic services of the presidency and obtain a permit to provide the service.

Unvaccinated people are also now allowed to perform Umrah under the new rules and enter the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, too.

Observance of i’tikaf has also been permitted in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, by the General President of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais.

I’tikaf is when worshippers stay in a mosque for the last 10 days of Ramadan and devote themselves to prayer and stay away from worldly affairs.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques also just announced the launch of electronic identification cards with QR codes to help all visitors of the Two Holy Mosques.
