We know that bigger doesn’t always equal better, but it does hold true with the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Not only is it the second largest – after the host nation, United Arab Emirates, of course – but it has also been awarded the LEED Platinum Certificate from the US Green Building Council. Translation: it’s one of the most sustainable designs in the world.

The World Expo takes place every five years, but this is the first time the event is taking place in the Middle East. Created in 1851, the first ever Expo was originally called the Great Exhibition and held in London, where it debuted, among other things, the UK’s first-ever paid for flushing toilets.

Today, Expo welcomes millions of visitors from around the world to discuss global matters and enjoy world-class entertainment including music, dance and art. A whopping 20 million visitors have descended on Dubai so far to see the exhibition.

While 190 countries are taking part, the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has already nabbed three Guinness World Records: the largest interactive lighting floor with 8,000 LED lights, the longest interactive water feature at 32 metres, and the largest LED interactive digital mirror screen at 1,302.5 square metres. The screen is a sight to behold – located on the outside of the building, it showcases blockbuster-worthy landscapes, offering a window into Saudi Arabia.

The sleek, slanted Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is an architectural show-stopper, and houses an exhibition celebrating Saudi artists. During one escalator ride, you can experience UNESCO World Heritage Sites including AlUla and historic Jeddah. Is the Red Sea’s coral reef on your bucket list? Well, here you can (almost) visit.

Thanks to technology, you will feel like you are diving into the Red Sea, standing atop the mountains of Tabuk and walking across the dunes of the Empty Quarter.

Of course, if you’re here in Saudi you could always just visit the real thing. But with the country putting on an incredible display for the whole world to see we reckon it’s worth a long weekend to experience for yourself. You have until Thursday March 31 to experience “the world’s greatest show”. Don’t miss out on these top things to do at Expo.
