King Fahd International Stadium

A stunning piece of design and ingenuity, the King Fahd International Stadium is the biggest and boldest of the three main Riyadh football stadiums. Opened in 1987, this striking structure broke many a record back in the day, including having the world’s largest stadium roof. With a design inspired to look like that of a Bedouin tent, the stadium has 24 giant canvases linked to resemble a flower in the midst of the Saudi Arabian desert. The Saudi men’s national team, aka the Green Falcons, play their home games here, alongside the all-conquering Al Hilal.

MRSOOL Park

Previously known as the King Saud University Stadium, or more affectionately Victory Arena, this one of Riyadh football stadiums is all set for a massive makeover thanks in no small part to the money pumped in by shipping company MRSOOL (hence the new moniker). Only built a decade ago, the plan is to turn this place into a 24/7 destination with football at its beating heart.

Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium

Although now slightly living in the shadows of Riyadh’s newer, more glitzy stadia, the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh will always have its name etched into the history of Saudi Arabian football. A first in Riyadh football stadiums, this historical field opened in 1971 (long before Saudi Arabia made it to their first World Cup Finals), this 22,500-capacity oval has hosted all three of the capital’s top teams – Al Hilal, Al Nassr and Al Shabab – over the years and continues to do so to this day.

The Saudi Arabia men’s national team are also known to play the odd friendly here, while Argentina thrashed Iraq 4-0 in a match here as recently as 2018.
