If you’re a thrill-seeker looking for your next adventure, you may well find it here. Top Gun, now open in Malham, is Riyadh’s newest shooting range.
Founded by Mohammed Abdulkareem Mohammed Al-Hasan, the club has opened to become the biggest in the Middle East. But you’re not just going to be let loose on one of 39 different firing lanes – highly trained experts, who guide each visitor, are a crucial part of every experience.
“Riyadh city is one of the biggest cities in the world,” says Al-Hasan. “Most global corporations will have an existence in the city, and we aim to make Top Gun the main establishment for firearms sport entertainment and training,” he continues, adding that his team also hopes to raise awareness of the sport throughout the kingdom.
But the crux of Top Gun is creating a safe place for people to experience firearms in a controlled environment.
At Top Gun, you are not allowed to bring your own weapons, and you may only use the guns present on site, which include Kimber 1911 pistols and Staccato handguns.
Since opening in October, 80 percent of Top Gun’s visitors have been female – with the facility also offering female instructors to guide guests through the experience.
The atmosphere at the range is designed to be fun, exciting and inviting, with safety the number one priority. On site, Top Gun also houses a lounge, café and – rather more unexpectedly – a fine-dining Italian restaurant.
Elsewhere on the site, you’ll also find a horse sanctuary and a space for regular
falcon shows.
“We made sure that the visitor experience would be complete, integrated entertainment destination for the family,” Al-Hasan says.
As one of the first shooting clubs in Saudi Arabia, Al-Hasan is acutely aware of his role in making sure standards are high and safety is paramount. But if shooting’s not your thing, maybe spaghetti is. Top Gun has plenty to offer.
