The first season of the show debuted with the Saudi Idol auditions on Tuesday December 20 at 9.30pm. Auditions air every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Saudi Idol aims to promote Saudi artists and the local musical industry. Like other versions of the hit TV show, Saudi Idol will be divided into two parts. It will start with the Saudi Idol auditions and then the live shows.
Similar to other formats, contestants will be judged by a panel. The Saudi Idol jury features regional artists Yemini singer and poet Aseel Abubakr, Emirati singer Ahlam, Iraqi-Saudi singer and composer Majid Almohandis, and Syrian singer Assala.
The show will be hosted by Rajeh Alharthi.

The Idol franchise is inspired by a 2001 British show launched by Simon Fuller called Pop Idol, other popular versions include American Idol, Indian Idol and the very first version, Polish Idol.
Saudi Idol has launched by MBC in collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority. The December premiere marks the first season of the Kingdom’s version.
