Jeddah-born Athr Gallery opens new space in AlUla

AlUla just got a shiny new art gallery

Jeddah‘s Athr Gallery just launched a brand-new space in AlUla, located in the ancient desert city’s new arts and culture precinct, AlJadidah.

Athr Gallery is one of AlUla’s first permanent cultural structures. The new dedicated exhibition space is 150 metre square inside the AlUla Design Gallery. Furthermore, Athr Gallery is the first to take up a space in the building.

The new contemporary AlUla Design Gallery is made of corten steel, glass and polished concrete and arranged in a breezeblock used widely across buildings in AlJadidah.

The inaugural exhibition at Athr Gallery focused on the themes of human nature, ecology, the inner self, country and representation within three distinct mediums. The exhibition featured work by artists Ahaad Alamoudi, Sara Abdu and Mohammad Alfaraj.

Athr Gallery launched in 2009 in Jeddah and is considered a key spot in bringing contemporary art to Saudi Arabia. It was founded by Hamza Serafi and Mohammed Hafiz.

AlUla is well on its way to becoming a popular travel and arts and culture destination. Not only is it home to a UNESCO heritage site, but it has preserved the history and culture of the area, while also bringing new big events to the desert, including AlUla Moments and Caravans by Habitas and international concerts.
