Saudia and AlUla launch a special flying museum

Live the high life and hop onboard the one-off Museum in the Sky

AlUla and Saudia are bringing a whole new meaning to in-flight entertainment. For one day only, they are elevating the museum experience – literally – as they launch Museum in the Sky. Visitors are invited to book a Saudia flight from Riyadh to AlUla on November 4, and go on a cultural adventure as the plane becomes a flying museum.

During your flight, you’ll be swapping your eye masks for artefacts. Onboard there will be a replica of AlUla’s finest artefacts, which tells the story of Saudi Arabia’s ancient civilization. It’ll all feel very Indiana Jones, as you’ll also have the chance to quiz the archaeologist, Dr Rebecca Foote, about the treasures and AlUla’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you love a good film on your flight, you’re in for a fun history lesson. Saudia is launching its new in-flight entertainment system: Discover Saudi Arabia. Passengers can watch the Discovery Channel’s documentary, Architects of Ancient Arabia, and listen to a special introduction onboard from Dr. Foote.

Dr. Rebecca Foote says: “There is an extraordinary volume of work ongoing in AlUla by both local and international archaeological teams, and yet we are only just beginning to understand the complexity of AlUla’s past. AlUla is a true hidden gem in the Arabian Peninsula, and we are slowly revealing its secrets. I am looking forward to sharing more about our work to the passengers onboard Saudia’s Museum in the Sky.”

Said Phillip Jones, chief destination management and marketing officer at RCU, says: “Museum in the Sky is providing a true connection back to AlUla as a living museum and the significance of the archaeological work we do in AlUla, which we believe is the biggest archaeological program in the world right now. We are honoured to work with Saudia and to welcome these passengers and all those who are planning visits over the next few months to discover more of AlUla’s living history.”

Hegra after Dark

You’ll have a first-class experience, as passengers landing in AlUla will be some of the first visitors to try the new Hegra After Dark experience and dine at the recently opened Maraya Social by Michelin-starred chef, Jason Atherton.

AlUla also has an exciting schedule of upcoming events, from live shows at Maraya Concert Hall to the upcoming Winter at Tantora festival. Strap in – it’s going to be a historical ride.
