Saudi’s first female astronaut is headed to the International Space Station (ISS), along with a male astronaut.
The news of Saudi’s first female astronaut heading to space was announced on Sunday February 12 by the Saudi Press Agency.
Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al Qarni are scheduled for blast off during the second quarter of 2023.

They will join the crew of the AX-2 space mission taking Saudi’s scientific research a step further in space technology, health and sustainability.
The mission is launching from the United States of America to the ISS, and it will include the training of two additional astronauts in the Saudi Human Spaceflight Program launched by the Saudi Space Commission.
Marking another first for the Kingdom, Rayyanah Barnawi will be Saudi’s first female astronaut to head off to space. Yes, we’re here witnessing history in the making.
Saudi will also be among the few countries to have two astronauts of the same nationality aboard the ISS at the same time.
The International Space Station is a large spacecraft and orbiting science laboratory where NASA learns about exploration. It serves as a home where crews of astronauts and cosmonauts live.
