Riyadh Season is the talk of the town at the moment. With new zones opening up and old ones regaining popularity, this year’s festival is back and bigger. As the festival gets underway, there has also been a significant Covid-19 announcement, which sees tickets no longer linked directly to the Tawakkalna app.
In 2020, Riyadh Season was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. This year though, as the vast majority of the Saudi population has been fully vaccinated by vaccines approved by the Ministry of Health, the show must go on.
Just before Riyadh Season was about to kick off, the Ministry of Interior announced the easing of Covid-19 rules in Saudi Arabia. The updates include that it’s no longer mandatory to wear a mask in open spaces, provided that you have been double-jabbed with an approved vaccine.
So when you enter any zone or event part of Riyadh Season, you’ll only be asked to show your immune status at the entrance gate upon arrival. This only applies to individuals who have been double-dosed.
Turki Alalshikh, chairman of General Authority for Entertainment, confirmed the changes on social media and stated: “To facilitate the process of entering the areas, the tickets have been de-linked to the Tawakkalna app.”
Saudi Arabia continues to see new Covid-19 rules implemented across the kingdom. Recently, rules also changed for the kingdom’s holy sites, as Makkah’s Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, dropped the cap on visitors.
