Lace up those trainers. The first Saudi Games 2022 is coming. The massive sporting event will run from Thursday October 27 to Friday November 7 and see a huge group of talented athletes competing to win some amazing prizes. And we mean amazing prizes.

The games are set to be the largest sporting event hosted in the Arab world to date with 6,000 athletes showing their skills over the days of competition.

The Saudi Games were originally supposed to be held in March 2020 but were postponed due to COVID-19. They’re happening now, and everyone is raring to play.

What are the Saudi Games 2022?

The main goal of the Saudi Games is to produce new sporting heroes and discover new sports talent within Saudi Arabia. Various athletes from the 13 regions of Saudi Arabia will be competing for a prize pool of more than SR200 million ($53.2 million).

What sporting competitions are there?

There are 45 sports: archery, padel, badminton, basketball 3×3, basketball 5×5, beach volleyball, billiards, baloot (card game), bowling, boxing, camel racing, chess, cycling (road race), equestrian, athletics, sailing, Esports, fencing, futsal, golf, gymnastics, handball, rowing (indoors), judo, jiujitsu, karate, karting, muay Thai, shooting, climbing, skateboarding, squash, swimming, weightlifting, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling and table tennis.

There are also five Paralympic sport competitions being held: wheelchair basketball, goalball, table tennis, weightlifting and ahletics

Where will the Saudi Games 2022 be held?

Venues have been announced, and the Equestrian jumping contest will be held at the Saudi Equestrian Federation, the Billiards tournament will be held at Black Diamond, and the Taekwondo competition will take place in the KSU Arena.

The Saudi Games 2022 are a part of Saudi Vision 2030. The Sports for All Federation was given the task to increase the number of people in the Kingdom participating in sports and physical activities by 40 percent. The SFA is dedicated to making everyone’s lifestyle a little healthier in ways that are fun for everyone.

What is the Saudi Games 2022 torch relay?

The torch relay kicked off in Riyadh in September. It will be travelling across 3,500 kilometres before returning to the capital in Diriyah. Major milestones on the route include Madina, Makkah, NEOM, Tabuk, and more. The tour will last 22 days.

The torch was be seen in Al Jawf Province, Al-Shola, the Northern Borders Province, Ha’il, and the Qassim region, Eastern Province (Dhahran, Khobar, and Dammam), Al-Ahsa, Makkah, Taif, Al-Baha and the Asir region. The torch then headed to Jazan followed by Najran and AlUla.

Is there a Saudi Games opening ceremony?

Yes, there is. The Saudi Games 2022 opening ceremony will take place at King Fahd International Stadium and the huge games will kick off with a performance from legendary DJ David Guetta.
