Quba Mosque to expand tenfold

The mosque will be expanded by 5,000 square meters

Madinah’s Quba Mosque, which was the first place of worship built by Prophet Muhammad, will be increasing in size tenfold according to His Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

Quba Mosque will be going through its largest development so far, with the aim being to expand the mosque by 50,000 square meters. The project is named after His Highness King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the goal is to increase the mosque capacity by 66,000 worshipers.

The current praying area is 5,000 square meters, and in total it’s 13,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 22,000 worshipers. The new praying area will be attached to the pre-existing areas via shaded courtyards on all four sides.

HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud says that this is to ensure that Quba Mosque can accommodate more people during peak times.

In an effort to keep the rich religious, social, and cultural significance alive, HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud previously ordered the restoration of 130 historical mosques back in 2018.

Quba Mosque is of significant importance to Muslims all over the world as it’s believed that performing Wuḍū (ablution) and prayer at the mosque is rewarded as having performed one Umrah.
