Flamenco Nights

Riyadh to host first Spanish Flamenco Nights this month

The performance will feature 10 dancers and six musicians

Calling all dance-lovers: The Theatre and Performing Arts Commission will be hosting special Flamenco Nights to celebrate Spanish culture and folklore in Riyadh.

The Flamenco Nights – or “Noches de Flamenco” as they’re called in Spanish – will be the first event of its kind, and will be held in the Cultural Palace in the Diplomatic Quarters from Wednesday February 16 to Sunday February 20. Standard tickets start at SAR100 and go up to SAR500 for diamond seats.

The performances will include music paying homage to Andalusia in Spain, (the home of flamenco), along with a couple of contemporary dancing routines, too.

What is flamenco, you may ask? It is made up of various folkloric music traditions from southern Spain. The art of flamenco is made of three key components: guitar, song, and of course, dance. It aims to reveal the dancer’s emotions via their body movements.

You’ve surely heard the traditional castanets (percussion handheld instruments) play in the background of traditional Spanish songs and dances, and you can expect those at the event, plus, much more.

The Flamenco Nights in Riyadh will feature 10 dancers and six musicians led by internationally renowned artist José Manuel Alvarez. The event comes as part of the Theatre and Performing Arts Commission efforts to enrich the Saudi community and to help develop the art scene here in Riyadh. Furthermore, it aims to encourage dialogue between Saudi audiences and the international performers.

The Flamenco Nights experience wants to take the crowd through one of the most famous ancient Spanish arts, as it merges traditional and contemporary flamenco art in a lively musical atmosphere.

Get ready to dance the night away, Riyadh.
