Girl Power: Apple opens first female-only developer academy

The Apple academy offers two exciting courses for different levels

Apple has opened the first development academy in the Middle East right here in Riyadh – and it’s the first women-only academy by Apple.

Apple launched the academy in collaboration with the Saudi Federation for Cyber Security, Programming and Drones. The courses are represented by Tuwaiq Academy and Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, which is the largest women’s university in the world.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of education and enterprise marketing, said: “We’re excited to welcome the first class of women to the Apple Developer Academy facility at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, The App Store ecosystem gives anyone with an idea the opportunity to design and build incredible new apps that can change the world. At Apple, we’re committed to ensuring everyone has the tools and resources to thrive in the app economy and be part of that transformation.”

Apple aims to help participants learn the fundamentals of coding, core professional competencies, design, and marketing, through the courses.

There are currently two courses being offered at the academy. The foundation course is a beginner level course for people interested in the world of coding. Then there’s the actual academy itself, where students will learn coding, design fundamentals, app business, and more. If you want to ease your way into it, this seems to be a great place to start.

Need a little push to begin? The academy is free to all those that qualify for the programme and all tech will be supplied by the organisers. There are no specific admission criteria so you don’t need to worry about having a background in coding. You can apply for the course online on the Developer Academy website.
