Everything you need to know about the Riyadh Metro

The Riyadh Metro is expected to be up and running in 2022

Ever since plans for Riyadh Metro were drawn up in 2014, it has been one of the most anticipated projects in Saudi Arabia. The project is near completion and is expected to be up and running towards the end of spring 2022.

In addition to the metro trains, there will also be buses as part of the project called the Riyadh Metro Buses, which will take you across town. It will cover main streets, highways and sub-streets. And yes, all stations will have free Wi-Fi so you can stay connected to your family and friends too.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has declared that all civil and construction works have now finally been completed, while the big picture completion has reached up to 92 percent. It is part of the Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), and aims to serve up to 100,000 people a day. All aboard, Riyadh.

How can you get to the Riyadh Metro?

To make the service as easy and accessible as possible, you can park your cars on-site at the station in one of the many parking slots. There will be 25 parking lots in total reserved for the project, each housing 400-600 cars at a time.

Is the Riyadh Metro eco-friendly?

The stations come with solar cells that will contribute to 20 percent of the entire station’s energy. The service once up and running will contribute to the decrease of nearly 250,000 car journeys a day, thereby reducing the city’s fuel requirement of 400,000 litres.

What are the different carriages available?

There are three carriages so far: singles, families and VIPS. The single carriages are to be used by single males, while the family carriages are reserved for families and lone females. The VIP section can only be used if you have a VIP card.
