Revel in the beauty of Norway’s fjords on a cultural walking tour

The word “picturesque” is so glibly overused that its true meaning has become somewhat diluted. However, we feel it’s pretty safe to say the Norwegian fjords are just one of those places you’d gladly set up an easel for.

There are many ways to discover this area of outstanding natural beauty, but we like the package offered by Kudu Travel, which will take you on a cultural walking tour of the fjords.

You’ll start in beautiful Bergen (pictured above), which you’ll explore on foot, by tram and via the Fløibanen funicular, which offers city views from 300 metres above it. Here you’ll also enjoy a night at the Bergen International Festival, the popular art event.

Leaving Bergen, you’ll take a mountain drive to Norheimsund before sailing up the Hardangerfjord to tiny Utne where you’ll spend two nights in Utne Hotel, one of Norway’s oldest – your base for an unforgettable hike up the Hardangervidda mountain plateau.

Another scenic drive will lead you to a trip on the famous Flåm railway before you head to Oslo. Stroll through the capital’s streets to the Royal Palace and Henrik Ibsen’s House before enjoying a performance of La Bohème at Oslo Opera House. A fitting way to bring the curtain down on any holiday.
