We know that Saudi Arabia loves its falcons. The animal is pretty much the national bird of the kingdom – they are what koalas are to Australia and pandas are to China. During the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival 2021, you’ll have a chance to learn more about the fascinating bird and its links to Saudi Arabia.
The King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival is now in its fourth year and takes place in Saudi’s Falcon Club in Malham, which is north of Riyadh. The festival began on November 28 and runs until December 16, and will be packed with bird-inspired activities.
Did you know that falconry is labelled by UNESCO as a living human heritage in Saudi Arabia? These birds are a thing of beauty in the kingdom and will be celebrated during the festival, as it aims to preserve the culture and heritage of the kingdom.
Bringing together local as well as international falconers, it will be a chance for you to see the birds in action and learn about the history of the creatures in the country. The festival welcomes owners and professionals to showcase their falcons, and the general public who can get a glimpse of falcons.
There are currently more than 20,000 falcons in Saudi Arabia, and Saudi’s Falcon Club aims to preserve the heritage and traditions associated with falconry culture through activities that range from training sessions to festivals.
