Amazing news, Riyadh. The amazing Egyptian legend Amr Diab will be playing Riyadh on February 24.
If you think you’ve never heard of Amr Diab himself, there’s a good chance you’ve heard one of his songs – they’ve been featured in dozens of movies and TV shows, from Malcolm in the Middle to The Dictator.
Those have songs have helped Diab, 52, shift an estimated 30 million records, reportedly making him the best-selling Arabic singer ever.
The man really is a legend: his global sales have already beaten the 50 million mark, and the singer/songwriter has won the World Music Award for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist four times, in 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2009. Amr Diab followed those up in 2010 with two African music awards, Best Male Act of Africa and Best North African Artist, during the African Music Award Festival in London.
Who doesn’t like the songs by Amr Diab and hums to his tunes when we hear them? Who doesn’t feel nostalgia when hearing the song “Raj’in” or dance to Leila Nahari? He is no stranger to the capital, having previously performed multiple shows in Riyadh as well as all over the Kingdom, most notably in Jeddah.
Riyadh Season has previously hosted Arab music legends like Abdul Majid Abdullah, Mohamed Ramadan, George Wassouf, Wael Jassar, Tamer Hosni, Elissa, Kazem El Saher, Mohamed Hamak, Wael Kfoury, Nancy Ajram, Nassif Zeytoun, and so many more amazing artists both local and international.
