New Murabba in Riyadh will officially be the world’s largest modern downtown.
The ambitious development will have over 80 entertainment and culture venues, walking trails, an immersive theatre, a new landmark called The Mukaab, “ever-changing, immersive worlds”, and a museum. And that’s just the start.
Sustainability will be at the core of the Saudi New Murabba development with green spaces, cycling paths and walking trails.
And it’s all expected to be completed by 2030.
The new Saudi development was announced on Thursday February 16 by His Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister and Chairman of the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC), and it is in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
New Murabba will be large enough to hold 20(!) Empire State Buildings.
The Saudi giga-project will be in the northwest of Riyadh at the intersection of King Salman Road and King Khalid Road, and take up a space of 19 square kilometres, so it could potentially accommodate those Empire State Buildings, along with hundreds of thousands of Riyadh residents.
In fact, New Murabba will have 25 million square metres of floor area with over 104,000 residential units and 9,000 hotel rooms. Additionally, there will be 1.4 million square metres of office space and more than 980,000 square metres of retail space.

Best of all, residents will be able to enjoy all of New Murabba’s amenities easily. We can anticipate everything being within a 15-minute walking radius, and the development will have an internal transport system. Riyadh airport will also be a 20-minute drive (not that you’ll want to leave).
As for the new Riyadh landmark, The Mukaab, will combine cutting edge technology and Najdi architectural styling. It will boast first-of-its-kind facilities, and it will be one of the largest built structures in the world with a square size of 400 metres high, 400 metres wide and 400 metres long.
The Mukaab will also have a tower atop a spiral base, with two million square metres of shopping, culture and tourist attractions, along with the previously mentioned residential and hotel units, commercial spaces, and recreational facilities.
Saudi is known for its ground-breaking firsts and The Mukaab will be one of them. It will be the world’s first immersive destination, where it will offer experiences via digital and virtual technology and he latest holographics.
