Revealed: the world’s best airlines for 2022

The ranking rates airlines based on customer reviews, safety ratings, fleet age and more

Given the thousands of lost bags and huge number of flight delays and cancellations, you’d be forgiven for looking at the current airport chaos and wanting to avoid it as much as humanly possible. And picking the right airline – if you’ve got that option – can go a long way to making sure your flight isn’t just clean and safe but reliable, too.

If you’re on the hunt for the best airlines around right now, well, we might just have an answer. A new ranking from AirlineRatings.com has weighed up stuff like customer reviews, safety ratings, fleet age and environmental commitments to come up with 2022’s best airlines in the world.

While AirlineRatings.com’s ranking is very much about the bigger picture – and so doesn’t take into account the recent months of delays and cancellations in many parts of the world – it still helps to know which airlines are, overall, a bit more dependable than others.

According to the study, the best airline for 2022 is… Qatar Airways! The Qatari national carrier was praised for the quality of its overall product and its commitment to keeping critical long-haul routes running during the pandemic. Second came Air New Zealand, touted for having the best ‘premium economy’ service in the world, followed by Etihad, which was commended for leading the way with more environmentally-friendly planes.
