Ramadan 2023 to start on Thursday in Saudi

This year, Ramadan will start on Thursday March 23 in Saudi.

Ramadan 2023 will be one of the most significant dates in the calendar for anyone living in Saudi.

The 30-day annual fast will likely end on Friday April 21, with Eid al-Fitr falling on the same day.

That said, it is important to note that the exact date of Ramadan’s beginning is determined by religious scholars and a moon-sighting committee in Saudi Arabia.

They must observe certain sightings related to the appearance and cycle of the moon – so the specific dates can vary, albeit typically only by a day or two at most.

Ramadan starts when the crescent moon, or hilal, coincides with the astronomical new moon.

On Tuesday March 21, The Supreme Court in Saudi called on Muslims in the Kingdom to sight the Ramadan crescent moon on Tuesday evening.

The March 23 start date for Ramadan 2023 comes after the crescent moon was not sighted on Tuesday March 21.
