International fans driving their own cars in Qatar during World Cup to pay QR5,000 fee

You will need to apply for a vehicle entry permit through Hayya

Thinking about driving to Qatar for the World Cup? You might want to think again, as the Ministry of Interior has announced a QR5,000 fee for international fans who are planning to drive their own vehicles.

Between Tuesday November 1 and Friday December 23, international arrivals passing through the Abu Samra border crossing must have a vehicle entry permit.

This exceptional entry permit will only be granted to fans who have confirmed accommodation for at least five nights, and there must be a minimum of three passengers in the car.

You will need to apply through the Hayya platform, and if approved, you will need to obtain vehicle insurance and pay a QR5,000 non-refundable fee within 24 hours to obtain the permit.

This does not apply to citizens, residents and GCC nationals who have a Qatari ID card driving a vehicle with Qatari number plates.

Fans who cannot obtain a vehicle entry permit will need to leave their car at the border.
