1.2 million tickets sold for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

There has been exceptionally high demand for tickets to the tournament

Wondering about tickets sold for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022? With the preliminary playoffs complete, and the match schedule set for the kick off of the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the Middle East – the excitement is really ramping up.

On Wednesday June 22, His Excellency Hassan Al-Thawadi who is the head of the organising body looking after FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, noted that there has been massive demand for tickets to the international sporting event. During a conference at the Qatar Economic Forum, H.E. Hassan Al-Thawadi said “I think about 1.2 million tickets have already been purchased.”

This figure was then confirmed by organisation officials.

Organisation officials also stated that approximately 40 million ticket applications were made during the two phases of ticket releases online.

With further reference to ticket applications, FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, stated that more than 5 million requests have been made for tickets to the final match to be played at Lusail Stadium. There are just 80,000 seats available in the stadium.

In total two million tickets have been assigned for sale football fans to attend the various matches and stages of the almost four-week-long sporting event.

As 1.2million tickets have already been sold, this means just 800,000 more tickets will be available for the public to purchase.

To service demand for flights into the city, flydubai have laid on shuttle flights, as has Qatar Airways and other companies. Additionally, more than 500 Saudia flights will happen for the World Cup to shuttle ticket holders.

Group stages will run from Monday November 21 until Friday December 2, with the round of 16 running between Saturday December 3 and Tuesday December 6.

The quarter-finals will be held on Friday December 9 and Saturday December 10, followed by the semi-finals on Tuesday December 13 and Wednesday December 14.

The showdown for third place will happen on Saturday December 17, followed by the final on Sunday December 18 – which coincides with Qatar National Day.
