Exciting times, Riyadh. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has issued a royal decree which declared February 22 an official holiday across all sectors in observance of the Saudi Founding Day.
The decree states, “Out of pride in the well-established roots of this blessed state, and the close connection of its citizens with its leaders since the era of Imam Muhammad bin Saud three centuries ago, in early 1727, until 1818. With its capital in Diriyah and its constitution, the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of His Messenger, the first Saudi state was established in the Arabian Peninsula.”

After Imam Muhammad who is considered the founding father of modern-day Saudi Arabia, Imam Turki bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Saud succeeded in establishing the second Saudi state in 1824 and lasted until 1891.
King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Faisal Al Saud established the third Saudi state in 1902 and unified it in the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and his sons, kings, followed his approach in strengthening the building and unity of this state.

The annual national holiday which is to be celebrated starting next month is to celebrate the rich history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to commemorate the first Saudi state.
