It is one of the biggest film events in Saudi Arabia. The Red Sea International Film Festival takes place in Jeddah’s UNESCO World Heritage Site old-town, Al Balad, and brings together local and international filmmakers.
The inaugural film festival presented 138 international films from 67 countries in 34 languages in five purpose-built theatres. It also showcased an amazing 27 new Saudi films.
The red carpet for the Red Sea International Film Festival featured multiple stars including the likes of Haifaa Al Mansour, Yousra, Laila Eloui, Catherine Deneuve, Clive Owen, Hilary Swank, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Anthony Mackie, Vincent Cassel and Akshay Kumar, to name a few.

The Red Sea Souk, the festival’s industry market, was also a huge success with four days of curated events that brought together the local and international film industries.
Mohammed Al-Turki, Chairman of the Red Sea International Festival Committee, said: “We are grateful to the film and local community who put their trust in us, this was a huge undertaking and the team worked extremely hard to deliver a Festival that I believe exceeded expectations.”
Al-Turki elaborated: “To bring people together through the universal language of the film within the historic surroundings of Jeddah’s historic old town, to see emerging local filmmakers present their films alongside international counterparts to full cinemas was truly extraordinary. The future is bright for Saudi film and I look forward to welcoming return and new guests from around the world for our second edition.”
