We love local art, so are thrilled to see that Riyadh is welcoming a new art gallery. Lakum Artspace will be opening in the capital in December and promises to showcase young as well as established artists in Saudi Arabia.
Lakum Artspace’s cultural practitioner and facilitator, Neama Al- Sudairi, is behind the push to nurture creatives in Saudi Arabia. The space allows budding artists to build their network, exhibit pieces in the gallery, and inspire one another.
Al-Sudairi says: “More than just an art space, Lakum is one of its kind in Saudi Arabia to exist as a multifunctional hub that creatively compliments the current art scene in the country.”
Al-Sudairi goes on to describe it as “a transliteration between Arabic and English as an art space for all.” While the centre also plans to be a multi-disciplinary creative centre that attracts all ages.
The space will include a contemporary gallery, multi-purpose library, cool new conceptual store, and lastly a small café to nurture your creative as well as caffeine needs.
The gallery opens with an exhibition of the much-loved and celebrated Saudi artist Ahmed Mater. It will draw inspiration from his upcoming book, which will be available exclusively at Lakum Artspace.
The educational programs hosted at Lakum Artspace will include interactive workshops, a series of public talks and more. The research library will provide 300 bilingual books (in Arabic and English) on a wide array of arty topics. While the Lakum Artspace shop will have exclusive art supplies, limited edition books and prints.
