You don’t have to be a gym junkie to join Riyadh’s very first full marathon. Announced by the Sports for All Federation and supported by the Ministry of Sport along with the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, the landmark event is open to anyone who’d like to run the 42-kilometre route.
On March 5 2022, you can run to your heart’s content across the city. The route starts at King Saud University, then winds its way through the capital’s attractions. The marathon boasts races for all ages in addition to the full marathon.
The Riyadh Marathon 2022 goes the extra mile (and possibly more) as there will also be a 21.1-kilometre half-marathon, a 10-kilometre run and, lastly, a 4- kilometre race for beginners and children.
It’s not just about the races, during the weekend leading up to the event, participants will be welcomed to the Riyadh Marathon Village where they can enjoy food, activities and entertainment.
Need some motivation to register? Top runners will be receiving money prizes of a value of more than SAR100,000, along with additional benefits that are yet to be announced.
As part of Saudi Vision 2030, the SFA was given the task to increase the number of people in the kingdom participating in sports and physical activities by 40 percent. The SFA is dedicated to making everyone’s lifestyle a little healthier in the most fun ways possible.
The president of the SFA, HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud has said “With training support and guidance in the lead-up to the event, as well as two full days of fun and entertainment over the race weekend itself, inclusivity is at the heart of the Riyadh Marathon. We can’t wait to welcome everyone at the marathon start line in March next year.” So Riyadh, get ready and get fit.
Registrations open early December 2021, riyadhmarathon.org
