3 fun French events in Riyadh

From pastry making to perfume workshops, here’s where to get a taste of French culture

Are you after a little ooh la la? Well, if you’re a Francophile or just want to expand your cultural horizons, you’ll be tres pleased to hear that you can experience French culture in the capital.

Alliance Française d’Arabie Saoudite regularly hosts great French-inspired events covering everything from pastry to perfume workshops. Here are its latest French events in Riyadh.

French language classes

Have you always wanted to master the language of love? Well, Alliance Française d’Arabie Saoudite host French classes throughout the year. If you are brushing up or an absolute beginner, there are classes for every level. There are plenty of different options, including online as well as onsite classes. The classic course for beginners includes nine classes over four weeks – by the end of it, you’ll have 20 hours of French lessons.

Perfume workshop

The French are famous for the perfumes, thanks to Coco Chanel who created a fragrance that is apparently sold every 30 seconds. While your creation at this workshop might not be as popular, it will be special, as it will have been created by your own hands. During the workshop, you’ll get to create your own scent. Plus, you’ll gain some perfume trivia along the way, as you will learn about the cultural techniques used in perfume making in France and Saudi Arabia, the history of the perfume industry and be introduced to the most famous perfume advertising campaigns.

Winter Delicacies

Have you ever wondered how the French get their pastries so pretty? Well, you can find out at this French pastry cooking demonstration, which is taking place in the ever-popular Marriot Diplomatic Quarter. French chefs Juli Lestrade and Juli Lewa will teach you how to make winter-inspired treats. During the event, you’ll enjoy afternoon tea with scones and Arabic sweets, and get to take away a box of delicacies.
