Train launching between the UAE and Saudi Arabia

Officials said the track will be done by the end of 2021

Being in Dubai, we’re lucky that there are dozens of incredible places to explore right around us just a short journey away.

And it’s about to get a whole lot easier, with a train line being built between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Officials have said the 2,100km link track will be completed by the end of December 2021.

The plan is for it to have capacity for both passengers and freight, which means you could soon be able to hop on a train to Riyadh.

That news is even more significant considering that the Kingdom is opening up tourism visas over next few months for the first time in years.

The Gulf Railway project should eventually connect all the countries in the GCC, so this is a significant move towards that goal.

Each nation in the council is responsible for building its own section of the track.

The UAE suspended construction in 2016 – but this announcement means it could be set to start again soon.

That being said, it’s not even necessary to leave the UAE to have an amazing holiday.

Diving, desert, mountains and museums. Whatever kind of escape you’re craving, there are quite literally hundreds of choices here.

Abu Dhabi is only an hour and a half drive away, or you can get to Fujairah in two.

Or to discover incredible beaches, five-star hotels and learn about the history of the UAE, head for Ras Al Khaimah.

There are also plenty of places that are just a few hours flight away from the UAE – such as Amman in Jordan, which is one of the oldest cities in the world – or *Salah in Oman**, where you can escape from the summer heat to a green oasis.
