Tanween: Join creative workshops in Riyadh

Talks cover designing sneakers, creating book covers and learning calligraphy

Looking to get your creative juices flowing? Well, you’re in luck, as Ithra by Saudi Aramco is presenting Tanween, which has a jam-packed schedule of workshops designed to celebrate, encourage and nurture the creative minds in the kingdom.

Taking place in Dhahran, this year’s theme is “Tools: Crafting Creativity”. The theme hopes to dive into artistic and cultural industries, which are driving the future of the creative economy and shining a spotlight on the tools at our disposal.

The season is inviting speakers who are at the top of their fields to host talks and workshops to be a guiding hand to nurture raw talent.

After launching in 2018, the season has attracted more than 100,000 visitors (both online and physical). Ithra has had 125 speakers, both local and international names, teaching and guiding students to enter the creative field.

“From the first stone hammer to modern-day technology, tools enable our creativity to shape our world,” says Miznah Al- Zamil, head of innovation and creativity at Ithra.  The workshops are fun and varied, from designing a plastic product to enjoying pizza under the stars.

Speakers coming in this season are top creatives like Chris Law and Dr Huda AbiFares. They will be doing talks on sneaker design, Arabic lettering and book cover design, and calligraphy woodcarving.

Entry into the Ithra centre is free, however, some programs and workshops will require a few extra riyals. Once you’ve had your creative needs met, you’ll have your foodie ones met, as there are international as well as local dining facilities.
