We have some positive news, Riyadh. The Ministry of Interior has announced the easing of COVID-19 rules in Saudi Arabia. The biggest change is that it will no longer be mandatory to wear a mask in open spaces.
A statement published by the Ministry of Interior stated that the new rules will come into effect from Sunday, October 17. The move follows a drop in daily infections and an increase in vaccinations.
At the top of the list is the removal of wearing masks in open places. The changes only apply to people who have been double vaxxed by an approved vaccination in the kingdom. While masks must still be worn in closed places.
The new rules also see social distancing measures dropped. Public places, events, transportation, restaurants and cinemas, which can be trace people through the Tawakkalna app, will be able to operate at full capacity for people who have been fully vaccinated.
The statement also mentions that event spaces, such as wedding halls, no longer have to comply with capacity restrictions. People visiting these closed spaces, however, must still continue to wear a mask.
COVID-19 rules in Saudi Arabia have also changed for the kingdom’s holy sights. Makkah’s Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina have dropped the cap on visitors. If you have been double jabbed, you must continue to wear a mask and use the COVID-19 tracking app.
