Mohalla

A casual Dubai-born Indian street food spot in The Esplanade

Up for an Indian adventure? It’s the question Dubai’s Mohalla has been asking as it has made its way to The Esplanade in Riyadh. The popular area isn’t short of new places to eat – and there always seems to be more on the way. Mohalla is one of the newer kids on the block having opened earlier in 2022. If you’re after a colourful Indian street food joint, make your way over, but try not to get distracted by the waterfalls and Instagrammable spots aplenty.

With hanging plants and colourful carpets from the industrial ceilings, wicker chairs, and dishes that are as vivid as the food served in them, Mohalla has plenty to admire inside.

There’s also an outdoor area next to the waterfall that remains popular in the evening hours even when the summer heat thickens.

Mohalla

Mohalla’s concept is about being an “ode to a community neighourhood” with dishes from across India and bold flavours. It translates into a casual spot with easygoing staff and well-priced plates that encourage you to try something new. Many dishes, including sharing plates, are under SAR60 and generously portioned so order what strikes your interest.

Sure, you can’t go wrong with the signature butter chicken, but the avocado papdi chat with desi guacamole and chutney is a vibrant starter. The fried version of the 1965 Buhari is a street food twist on a classic. Try to squeeze in one of the special kebabs and a dessert before you burst.

The eatery doesn’t have the slick service yet, but with a bit more time to find its groove, we can see Mohalla drawing even more of a crowd.
