If you love your Saudi coffee (don’t we all), get ready for the free Saudi Coffee Festival 2022 in Riyadh this week.
Wondering when the caffeine really kicks in? The Saudi Coffee Festival begins on Thursday September 29 and will last until Sunday October 2.
The coffee-loving capital is hosting the festival at The Arena Riyadh Venue for Exhibitions to highlight the importance of the beverage as a part of Saudi’s culture.
Saudi coffee is a huge part of the culture and heritage of Saudi Arabia and 2022 was even dubbed “The Year of Saudi Coffee” so it couldn’t be better to have the festival taking place now.
Like we said, the Saudi Coffee Festival 2022 is open to all for free, visitors will learn about the history of Saudi coffee, including everything from how beans are cultivated to how to properly prepare it. Coffee connoisseurs you best be taking notes.

So, what is Saudi coffee? “Arabic coffee” is sometimes used to describe the drink across the GCC, but in 2022 the commercial name “Saudi coffee” replaced “Arabic coffee” in the Kingdom to differentiate the brew from others in the region. Beans and the preparation methods tend to differ regionally. For Saudi coffee, coffee beans are called Khawlani beans and come from Jizan and the beans tend to be roasted less, resulting in a paler brew with a stronger taste and more caffeine.
The Saudi Coffee Festival 2022 is just the start of buzzy things in the capital. The coffee scene in Riyadh is huge. There are 24-hour cafés, new coffee shops and unique cafés to have a cuppa from. You can get everything from Spanish lattes to one of Riyadh’s favourite cold brews, too.
